  2. Buy child safety gates manufactured after 1985. Accordion type child gates made before 1985 are a safety hazard, as kids' heads can easily get stuck in them.
  3. The spacing of the bars or slats should be at most at 2 3/8 inches, for the same reasons mentioned above.
  4. Your child safety gate should be of the right size, allowing them to fit the space you have to block, but also because kids are growing fast, and learn to climb even faster
